The strategist described Juventus’ current line-up as “virtual”, referencing the fact that several key players are missing, including Paul Pogba, Federico Chiesa and even his personal favourite, Adrien Rabiot.
For his part, the Italian journalist Mario Sconcercti came out in defense of the coach in his daily column Calciomercato.
The veteran journalist agrees with Allegri’s assessment, even though the poor performance at U-Power Stadium was simply unjustifiable.
Sconcerti names some of the players who were a regular fixture in the team’s line-up three years ago and compares them to those who took to the pitch yesterday, wondering “what happened at Juventus in the last three years?”

Now, surely, replacing the skill and charisma of club legends like Gianluigi Buffon and Giorgio Chiellini was never going to be easy, but the management did sign some big names. Many of them had impressed at other big European clubs.
Despite the many absences, we surely had enough talent on the pitch to overtake Monza, a team that picked up just one point from the first six matchdays.
So the more accurate question would be: “Why are the Juventus players performing so poorly with the current coaching staff?”
