Subriel Matías will not change anything about his plan after the postponement of his title fight against Argentine fighter Jeremías Ponce.
The fight was originally scheduled for Oct. 15, as part of the Deontay Wilder-Robert Helenius heavyweight fight card.
Ponce was unable to obtain a visa in time to enter the country.
The boxer from Fajardo will continue to work in Mexico, despite the fact that there is no exact date or place for the rescheduled fight.
The two boxers were ordered to clash for the vacant IBF 140-pound title.
Matías has been training with Jacob “Panda” Majal since May in a town at 11,000 feet in the Central American country.
“Subriel is going to continue training there for another month. He can stop for three days to rest, but on the fourth he has to go back to training”, his promoter Juan Orengo, of Fresh Productions Boxing, told Giovanny Vega.
“In a world title fight, the boxer has to have his body conditioned. That’s the way to be quartered. Julio César Chávez and Juan Manuel Márquez were there at some point. It is the best for him because of the tranquility and the height. [of the location].”
Orengo assured that there is a sure agreement to make the fight in November and that there is no place for another postponement. However, the date and place of the card has not yet been finalized.
“Showtime has three dates and the fight will be put on a card as soon as [Ponce] has everything squared. You will not have problems with the documents because the [United States] the government has already communicated [with him].”
This is not the first time that Matías has had his training camp in Mexico. Just in January he had four months of preparation in Culiacán.
