Arsenal youngster Reiss Nelson has said he never thought of leaving the Gunners and revealed he would love to commit his future to the Premier League side.

Nelson graduated from the Arsenal academy and made his competitive debut for the Gunners in 2017. However, he has found it difficult to get game time in the Arsenal first team and has also been on loan at 1899 Hoffenheim and Feyenoord.

Since making his Arsenal debut, he has made 52 appearances for the north London outfit and has scored six goals for the English outfit.

Nelson made headlines when he shone for Arsenal in his first Premier League match of the 22/23 season when the Gunners took on Nottingham Forest at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday.

The 22-year-old came on for Bukayo Saka in the first half after the England international suffered an ankle injury. He made the most of the opportunity he was given, scoring two goals and registering an assist as Arsenal cruised to a 5-0 win over Forest.

That was only his fourth appearance for Arsenal this season, with the first three coming in the Europa League.

Speaking about his future, Nelson admitted it would be amazing to get a new deal at Arsenal and insisted he never thought of leaving the Gunners.

“I have never doubted myself. I have a very, very strong bond and love for the club. There have been times where I’ve been a little down, but my plan has never been to walk away or say I don’t have a future here,” Nelson said.

“Of course [I would like a new deal]. Getting a new contract would be amazing and I would love to commit to the club. But I’m very, very focused on doing the right thing.”

Meanwhile, Arsenal have had a stellar run so far in the 22/23 season. Mikel Arteta’s men sit top of the Premier League points table with 31 points from 12 games.

Arsenal have 10 wins, a draw and a loss in the English top flight in the 12 games they have played this season.

The Gunners also top their group in the Europa League. They have 12 points from five games, with four wins and one loss, in Group A and are two points clear of PSV Eindhoven, who sit second in the group.
