Pedro Guevara Inches Closer To World Title Shot With Win Over Aviles

Former world champion Pedro Guevara from Mazatlan strengthened his march towards obtaining an opportunity to fight for the World Boxing Council (WBC) super flyweight title, after having a triumphant night this past Saturday at the Jiquipilco Municipal Auditorium, State of Mexico .

The main event of the billboard was made possible thanks to the intervention of R-33 Management, a promotion agency run by American businessman Vincent Ruiz, and coach Adalberto “Condor” Sánchez, who acts as coordinator of sports disciplines, with the support of the municipal government headed by Jesús Sánchez Dávila.

Guevara prevailed by unanimous decision over a seasoned opponent such as Ángel “Puma” Avilés from Guerrero, in a duel scheduled for ten rounds at the bantamweight limit.

In what turned out to be a veritable night of fireworks, Guevara and Aviles put on a spectacular fight, exchanging veritable “shrapnel” as the two styles meshed together for a thrilling battle.

In the end, Guevara got a deserved victory by getting scores of 98-94, 97-94 and 99-92.

With this victory, Guevara added his 39th victory, 22 of them by way of knockout, in exchange for three losses and a draw. Aviles’ record dropped to 20 wins, six knockouts, eight setbacks and one draw.

Guevara, 33, has now won nine fights in a row since losing a twelve-round majority decision to world champion Kenshiro Teraji in October 2017.
