OKTAGON 35 Results: Kincl blasts through Lohore to retain title

OKTAGON 35 took place on Saturday night (September 17) at the Winning Group Arena in Brno, Czech Republic, and was billed as the biggest combat sports event the city has ever seen. The European promotion delivered once again and fans around the world are now beginning to realize that the Czech Republic is a true hotbed for MMA. A sold-out crowd of nearly 9,000 witnessed some of the best talent in the territory deliver statement performances, setting up some massive OKTAGON MMA fights for the rest of the year.

In the main event, Patrik Kincl (26-10, 1NC) successfully defended his middleweight title for the first time when he knocked out Alex Lohore (21-8) in just under two minutes. Many expected a classic ‘puncher vs. wrestler’ matchup, but Kincl broke that script as soon as the competition began. He found range from him immediately and landed a big left kick to the head before unleashing a barrage of punches. ‘The Inspector’ forced the referee to intervene when he hit Lohore with two huge elbows that sent the Bellator veteran to the canvas, ensuring that Kincl made good on his promise to finish off his opponent, something his rival Karlos Vémola could not achieve previously.

It was a resounding win for Kincl and arguably the best performance of his career. After the match, the aforementioned OKTAGON MMA Light Heavyweight Champion Karlos Vémola entered the cage and the two exchanged some heated words. ‘The Terminator’ made it clear weeks ago that he wanted to win the OKTAGON MMA middleweight title before the end of 2022 to become a two-time champion. The prospect of a rematch between the two men, with much more at stake than when they met years ago, has fans and the media salivating with anticipation.

Karol Ryšavý (11-4) defeated František Fodor (9-7) by technical knockout in the first round of the ‘Slovak derby’ and showed once again why he is one of the most clinical finishers in the organization. His skillful technical striking was on display throughout the co-feature and he too came close to finishing an arm triangle when the contest hit the canvas. ‘Bomby’ was consistently one step ahead of his opponent and with 10 stoppage wins in 11 fights, it’s clear why he is a fan favorite in the lightweight division.

Elsewhere on the main card, Jakub Dohnal (11-2) defeated David Moon (10-6) in a thrilling back-and-forth featherweight contest, where both men had moments of brilliance. Andrej Kalašnik (10-3), Robert Pukač (16-10-1) and Ronald Paradeiser (14-8) also earned decisive decision victories to add another important victory to their records.

In preliminary action, Radek Roušal (20-5 kickboxing) defeated Marek Bartl (10-11 MMA) in a special ‘Underground’ rules match that featured exciting stand-up action. Tough Englishman James Lewis (8-4) made a successful promotional debut when he defeated inaugural OKTAGON Challenge Germany winner Selim Topuz (6-4-1) by submission in the first round. Following the win, Lewis called out Gábor Boráros in the cage after ‘Beast’ pulled out of their scheduled competition earlier this week. Additionally, Radovan Úškrt (6-3) continued his 100% first-round knockout streak, stopping Denis Kurdinov (4-2-1) in a middleweight bout.

Loyal Brno fans were also treated to a special appearance by World MMA Light Heavyweight Champion Jiří Procházka. He has made history for the sport in the Czech Republic and is a true superstar in his hometown. Winning Group Arena stood up as Procházka entered the cage and flashed his belt for all to see, reminding everyone that mixed martial artists based in the country can be as good as anyone in the world.
