Neil Wood advises Manchester United to take time with Alejandro Garnacho’s development – Man United News And Transfer News

Alejandro Garnacho, 18, burst onto the Manchester United scene in exciting fashion.

The exciting winger joined United from Atlético Madrid in 2020. This season alone, Garnacho has made four first-team appearances. His first full start alongside fellow United hero and returnee Cristiano Ronaldo against Sheriff in the Europa League was the most memorable.

Salford City boss Neil Wood is familiar with the rising star but warns against rushing his development (via The Athletic). Wood spent nearly eight years at United. During this period, he coached the under-14s, 15s and 16s at the academy, becoming head coach of the under-23s.

Much to offer/ An exciting prospect

Like many, the Salford City manager recognizes the young attacker’s promise. In his interview with The Athletic, he said: “He’s got a good attacking style and there’s real potential there.”

“There is no doubt that he is talented, he can score individual goals and he is good at dribbling.”

In his stellar appearance against Sheriff, Garnacho put on an impressive display showing his qualities as an exciting favourite. Despite this, the pragmatic Wood insists: “he still has a lot to learn and a lot to develop.”

Room for improvement

The former United manager added: “He needs to improve: his passing, keeping the ball, protecting the ball, hiding the ball when he dribbles, being more productive with his end product, creating more assists.”

patience is key

An injury-plagued former academy player, Wood is all too familiar with the rise and fall of players. Patience is vital, especially for players who are set to be the next big thing.

While fans are excited to see more of the star, Wood suggests playing the long game with Garnacho may be more fruitful.

His parting warning against launching Garnacho into the first team too early is clear: “Too much too early can harm a player’s development.”
