Michael Carrick turns down Middlesbrough job offer following talks – Man United News And Transfer News

Former Manchester United caretaker boss Michael Carrick has turned down the Middlesbrough job after extensive talks.

Boro, who sit in the relegation zone in the Championship, are looking for a new manager after sacking Chris Wilder. They had finished a commendable seventh last season.

Just a couple of days ago, The Peoples Person reported that Carrick was in line to replace Chris Wilder.

However, according to talkSPORT, following discussions with the club, Carrick will not be the new manager.

He was seen as the main target for the job with Sean Dyche and Scott Parker behind him in the pecking order.

It now appears that the former United manager will not return to directing football in the coming days despite being in advanced talks.

Carrick was spotted at Goodison Park away from United last weekend and has been following the club since his departure.

He has also been spotted in Ipswich a couple of times, where former United manager Kieran McKenna currently manages.

Following the appointment of Ralf Rangnick, the former United midfielder felt there was no way he could continue and left the club.

After almost a year away from football, he has been strongly linked with a move to the Championship club.

The outlet reports that Carrick isn’t thrilled about the opportunity despite the team being a couple of points out of the playoffs last season.

The Athletic’s Laurie Whitwell also confirmed that the former United manager is unlikely to fill the vacant managerial role this week.

Carrick believes the time is not right to return to management after leaving United less than a year ago.

He is taking an extended break from football after being involved in some capacity for more than 22 years.

Middlesbrough will now turn their attention to the other candidates following the former United star’s rejection.
