Manchester United showing “strong interest” in Bayern Munich frontman Eric Choupo-Moting – Man United News And Transfer News

Erik ten Hag had quite a bit of work on his hands when he was appointed as Manchester United’s new manager in the summer. He needed to fix a leaky defense as well as strengthen in the center of the park.

And the Dutchman did exactly that with deals for Lisandro Martínez, Casemiro and Christian Eriksen and the results are there for all to see.

United are currently just three points behind third-placed Tottenham Hotspur with one game remaining and have qualified for the Europa League knockout round.

The hunt for the United striker

But his transfer business is by no means finished, as the former Ajax boss looks to build a team in his own image. The main position of the problem from now on is in front.

The Red Devils have Cristiano Ronaldo, Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford capable of playing as the sole striker but there have been problems with all three.

Martial’s injury problems have meant the Frenchman has started just one game this campaign, while a combination of off-field problems and a desire to leave have meant Ronaldo has struggled so far.

Rashford is the current top scorer but remains inconsistent and the current team lacks an outright goalscorer. And that’s why the 20-time English champions have been linked with a plethora of names thus far.

The latest to join the bandwagon is Bayern Munich leader Eric Choupo-Moting. According to Media Foot, United are ‘seriously considering’ a move next summer, as he will then become a free agent.

The Cameroonian’s statistics this season speak for themselves. He has scored eight goals in just 615 minutes of football, which translates to one goal every 76 minutes! He has also contributed three assists.

Most Bavarian fans were skeptical whether the 33-year-old could fill the void left by Robert Lewandowski’s departure to Barcelona in the summer, but the former Paris Saint-Germain star certainly proved his doubters wrong.

Choupo-Moting emerges as surprise candidate

So delighted are Bayern with his displays so far that they are reportedly already planning a contract extension.

Ten Hag is showing “very strong interest” in the striker in case a contract extension cannot be agreed between the two sides.

The Dutch coach likes his “profile, versatility, experience” and the club believes he could be a ‘great signing’ for next summer.

While Choupo-Moting has certainly played well this season, it’s hard to believe the Reds are going after his signing, especially if Ronaldo ends up leaving.

Ideally, they should target a hungry young goalscorer rather than the former Stoke City man. He could be a capable backup if the deal finally goes through.
