Chelsea defender Kalidou Koulibaly has claimed that the Blues can win the Premier League title this season.

The Stamford Bridge outfit signed Koulibaly in the summer transfer window, landing the 31-year-old Serie A side Napoli. Koulibaly signed a four-year contract with Chelsea with the option to extend it for a further 12 months.

Koulibaly has appeared in 11 games for Chelsea so far this season. The centre-back has played eight games for the Blues in the Premier League. Koulibaly has also appeared in three matches.

Chelsea, meanwhile, have not had the best of runs in the Premier League so far this season, sitting sixth in the points table.

“It will be Chelsea at the end of the season, I want to write history here,” Koulibaly told Corriere Della Sera. [Evening Standard] when asked about the Premier League title race.

Meanwhile, Chelsea are some distance behind in the race for the Premier League title. Arsenal sits first in the points table with 31 points from 12 games.

Manchester City, the defending Premier League champion, is second with 29 points from 12 games. Tottenham Hotspur is third with 26 points from 13 games. Newcastle United complete the top four with 24 points from 13 games.

Chelsea languishes in sixth place in the points table and is 10 points behind table leader Arsenal. The Blues have 21 points from 12 games. In the race for the top four, they are four points behind Newcastle United, but Graham Potter’s men have a game to spare.

Chelsea, meanwhile, suffered a heavy defeat on Saturday. The Blues faced Brighton & Hove Albion and lost to the Seagulls 4-1.

In a disastrous first half, Chelsea conceded three goals. The west London side found themselves trailing by one goal five minutes into the match. Brighton then doubled their lead in the 14th minute, courtesy of a Ruben Loftus-Cheek own goal.

Chelsea then conceded another own goal in the 42nd minute to go 3-0 down. Kai Havertz pulled one back in the 48th minute, but Brighton sealed their well-deserved win with a 90+2 minute goal.

Meanwhile, Chelsea’s next game in the Premier League is against London and table rivals Arsenal. The Blues will have a chance to bridge the gap to Arsenal when the two sides meet.
