Danny Jacobs Calls Out Gennadiy Golovkin

By Jack Tiernan: Daniel Jacobs says he was surprised by the scorecards for last Saturday night’s trilogy fight between Canelo Alvarez and Gennadiy Golovkin at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

‘The Miracle Man’ Jacobs says he would like to fight Golovkin in a rematch. He thinks it would be an interesting fight for the fans.

Jacobs feels that Golovkin (42-2-1, 37 KOs) didn’t deserve more than three rounds because he was too cautious to let go of his hands, and he gave away the rounds by being passive against Canelo.

Like many fans, Jacobs continued to expect an explosion of offenses from the 40-year-old Golovkin, but it never happened. He was too cautious, he fought safety first to prevent Canelo from cutting him.

In general, Golovkin fought as a sparring partner, trying to survive. We saw the glove touch initiated by Golovkin with Canelo and the head movement.

It looked like Golovkin got there for a 12-round sparring session and collected his big purse for his efforts. For the fans at T-Mobile Arena and those who paid $85 or $65 to order the Canelo-Golovkin III fight on DAZN pay-per-view, a lot of it didn’t happen.

“For me, I wasn’t disappointed because I knew it probably wasn’t going to be GGG’s best performance, but at the same time, I was very impressed with Canelo because Canelo doesn’t start fast,” Danny Jacobs said. to DAZN Boxing.

“It was shocking; I’m not going to lie,” Jacobs said of the Canelo vs. Golovkin. “Obviously in boxing, sometimes we have something controversial, but in a fight of this magnitude, you would think it would be a clean cut.

“All of us and the fans, everyone we watched saw a fair fight with what we thought was a whiteout. So, I gave GGG no more than three rounds,” Jacobs said.

“I gave him three too,” Shawn Porter said of Golovkin. “I tweeted this. I don’t know how to judge a professional boxing match, but I have it 9-3. We were former world champions and we have it 9-3.

“What are you going to [the judges] doing down there that you are seeing something very different from us? We just answered it right there. You are not fighters,” Porter said.

“We can’t see,” Jacobs said.

“I saw three things happen in this fight,” Porter said. “I saw Canelo start fast, and GGG was hesitant. He couldn’t find the time for him. He was definitely a little worried about being countered and stuff like that. That is number 1.

“#2, this is a high-level fight so no one wants to risk it because they know what the repercussions are if you risk it at the wrong time. That’s number two.

“#3, I saw Canelo slow down. I saw GGG have some success just by playing it. What does that do, Danny, mentally? I can touch it. Let me do it some more.

“So, it really wasn’t that GGG decided to pick it up. It was GGG picked it up, found a bit of success, and Canelo slowed down, and things evened out in the end. I gave GGG three of the last few rounds for that,” Porter said.

Golovkin never really fired up his offense in the second half. The only reason Golovkin won rounds late in the fight was that Canelo had run out of gas and was running from the battlefield.

He didn’t want to be hit and he didn’t have the energy to fight Golovkin.

“Having fought both guys myself, I know one thing about Canelo that I trained for is when he gets into these traps. These lack of time and struggle. He starts to spin.

“He started fast, changed the momentum of the fight and gave something different for GGG to think about, and pulled off a very, very important win for himself coming back from a loss.

“For me, boxers have this thing where it’s hard to let go. Boxers have this thing where sometimes they need someone to tell them it’s over and give them an extra push,” Jacobs said when asked where Golovkin goes from here.

“Wrestlers are fighters by nature, so I understand that GGG wants to end his career the way he wants to end his career. So, he would suggest that he try to fight a guy like Danny Jacobs.

“They had a really good fight in the past, and I think the fans would love that fight. Yes sir, absolutely. Yes sir,” Jacobs said when asked if he could still do 160 and 168.

The problem with Golovkin fighting a rematch with Jacobs (37-4, 30 KOs) is that it’s not a selling fight. Jacobs’ career has been ruined by his recent loss to John Ryder last February and his disappointing fights against Gabe Rosado and Julio Cesar Chavez Jr.

If Golovkin is counting on being able to sell his next fight on pay-per-view after his poor effort against Canelo, a better opponent than the 35-year-old Jacobs will be needed. At a minimum, Golovkin would need one of these fighters to sell a pay-per-view fight:

Jermall Charlo David Benavidez Caleb Plant Chris Eubank Jr

Jacobs is no longer relevant after his loss to Canelo, and his recent fights against Ryder and Chavez Jr.

“I’m not mad at that because we saw a level where you most recently in your most recent fight, and seen. We saw what level GGG performed tonight,” said Shawn Porter.

“They both have ways of measuring themselves and figuring out what they can do to beat the other. You come into the ring with a little more confidence than GGG tonight.

“I’m sure he will rise to the occasion to understand that he now has an opportunity to retire this man named GGG,” Porter said.

A fight between Golovkin and Jacobs has zero chance of happening because there is no demand for this contest. In hindsight, Jacobs made a mistake fighting Chavez Jr. Ryder and Rosado.

He should have fought Callum Smith because that would have given him a chance to prove himself against a top-tier super middleweight at the time.
