Teddy Sheringham has claimed that Cristiano Ronaldo should have left Manchester United in the summer transfer window of 2022.

Ronaldo was heavily linked with a departure from Manchester United in the summer, only a season later he signed for the Red Devils in a sensational return to the Old Trafford outfit.

Reports say that Ronaldo had asked Man Utd to allow him to leave if they receive a suitable offer in the summer transfer window. The Portuguese superstar wanted to play in the Champions League, for which Man Utd failed to qualify this season.

Man Utd’s stance amidst all the rumors was that Ronaldo was not for sale and the 37-year-old ended up staying with the English side. Interest in Ronaldo was also slim, with the only offer coming from a club in Saudi Arabia.

Sheringham insisted that Ronaldo should have left Manchester United at the start of the season. He warned that it’s not ideal to have an unhappy superstar on the roster.

“He should have moved on at the beginning of the season when he made it clear that he wanted to leave,” Sheringham told OLBG. [via Metro]. “It’s not ideal to have an unhappy superstar in your camp.

“If Ronaldo is not 100% committed to the cause, it is not good for the rest of the team, regardless of the player.”

Meanwhile, Ronaldo has been struggling for goals at Man Utd this season. He has made 14 appearances for the Red Devils so far this season but has only scored three goals.

In the Premier League, Ronaldo has appeared in nine games for the Old Trafford team. However, only three of them were starts, with the rest being appearances off the bench.

He has only scored one goal in the Premier League. That happened in Man Utd’s 2-1 win over Everton, with Ronaldo scoring the winner just before half-time after coming on as a substitute.

In the Europa League, Ronaldo has been a starter in all five games played by the Red Devils. He has also scored two goals in the Europa League. Both goals came against FC Sheriff, with Ronaldo registering a goal apiece in Man Utd’s two group stage games against the Moldovan side.
