Chelsea remain interested in Benjamin Pavard

English Premier League club Chelsea have a keen interest in French defender Benjamin Pavard, who currently plays for Bayern Munich.

Pavard joined the Lille academy at a very young age. The defender later graduated from the Lille academy and was promoted to the main team.

The Frenchman played just one season for Lille’s senior team, joining Bundesliga side VFB Stuttgart. In Stuttgart, Pavard became one of the best right-backs in the world. Pavard’s consistency earned him a place on the French team.

The defender then won the 2018 World Cup in Russia with the France national team. In January 2019, Pavard joined Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich. The defender became part of the Bavarian team that won the historic six-fold.

Chelsea aware of Benjamin Pavard situation

Chelsea still interested in Benjamin Pavard

Last summer, English Premier League giants Chelsea tried to sign French defender Benjamin Pavard from Bayern Munich.

However, the defender stayed in Germany and Chelsea signed Wesley Fofana, Marc Cucurella and Kalidou Koulibally to bolster their defence. After that, the Blues fired Thomas Tuchel and replaced him with the arrival of Graham Potter. But his interest in Pavard remains the same.

According to German outlet Sport Bild, Benjamin Pavard still remains on Chelsea’s list of finalists. Pavard’s contract with Bayern will expire at the end of the 2024 season.

It was previously reported that the defender does not want to continue at Bayern after that. So Chelsea is closely monitoring the status of his contract. So if Pavard decides not to renew his contract, the Blues will try to sign him next summer.

Now Pavard is considered a key player by Bayern Munich. His versatility to play both right back and center back is a great asset for them. So despite the summer signings of Matthias de Ligt and Noussair Mazraoui, Pavard is seeing enough playing time at the moment.

The Bavarians at the moment have no intention of selling the defender. They will try to renew his contract soon.
