Carragher names the side he wants Liverpool to face in UCL last-16

Jamie Carragher has revealed that he would like to see Liverpool face FC Porto in the Champions League round of 16.

The Reds advanced to the round of 16 of Europe’s top competition after winning five of their six group matches and will find out their next opponents when the draw is made on Monday.

The six-time European Cup winner can face Porto, Benfica, Real Madrid or Bayern Munich in the next round and the former Red Carragher wants another trip to the Estadio do Dragao.

“I would go to Liverpool to play Porto,” Carragher told CBS Sports (via HITC). “We’ve played them a couple of times in the past. I think psychologically we always seem to have an advantage over them.

“I think Liverpool will be a different proposition for anyone after Christmas. They’re not in the races right now. I think we will see Liverpool back at their best.

“I hope so (Liverpool will have another midfielder by then) and the fact that it’s in Istanbul, as I said last year, I can feel it.”

Jurgen Klopp’s side have faced the Portuguese outfit on numerous occasions in recent seasons.

We’ve won five of our last six meetings with the Primeira Liga champions by an aggregate score of 18-2, so it’s fair to say Sergio Conceicao’s side will want to avoid us.

However, Porto will not be easy to convince after topping their group, which included Club Brugge, Atletico Madrid and Bayer Leverkusen, and there is no easy game in the Champions League, especially in the round of 16. .

Benfica would be the other club you would choose to face Real Madrid or Bayern Munich, but to win the competition you have to beat the best at some point anyway.

The round of 16 won’t be played until February and March, when the likes of Luis Diaz and Diogo Jota should be back in top form and the team should be ready to attack the second half of the season.

We will meet our next opponents on Monday and the draw will start at 11am
