Canelo is still the 168-pound King  – World Boxing Association

Saúl “Canelo” Álvarez showed that he is the great man at 168 pounds and defeated Gennady Golovkin on Saturday night by scores of 116-112, 115-113 and 115-113, during the third fight between the two for their World Association de Boxeo (WBA) Super Middleweight Championship and his WBC, IBF and WBO titles.

The T-Mobile Arena, Las Vegas, had a unique atmosphere for a fight that was highly anticipated by the fans. After a draw and a victory for the Mexican, the third fight came and the man from Tatajarat repeated the dose with a victory.

Canelo was faster and more powerful from the start and put up an aggressive fight with long punches looking to hurt the Kazakh boxer. Golovkin, as always, tried to make an orderly fight with good use of the jab and trying to land his straight and right hook.

However, the Mexican was better from the beginning, going forward and connecting with both the body and the face of GGG to add rounds and gain an advantage in the judges’ cards, which in the end were quite close.

Golovkin went from less to more and in the final part of the fight he showed his best version and was able to win several of the final rounds thanks to his jab and some right hands that found Álvarez’s face.

The winner improved his record with 58 wins, 2 losses, 2 draws and 39 knockouts, while GGG now has a record of 42 wins, 2 losses, 1 draw and 39 knockouts.
