Besiktas Director Ceyhun Kazanci on Wout Weghorst’s Future

Besiktas manager Ceyhun Kazanci has provided an update on Wout Weghorst’s future amid transfer interest he has attracted from Premier League giants Manchester United.

Manchester United are looking to bolster their attacking department with the addition of a striker and are reportedly interested in the services of Wout Weghorst. The Dutch international currently plays for Besiktas, on a season-long loan deal from Premier League club Burnley. Besiktas also has the option to sign him on a permanent contract.

Wout Weghorst, who has been impressive for Besiktas since joining the club in July 2022, scored for the Turkish side in their 2-1 win over Kasımpaşa SK on Saturday. He scored his team’s second goal of the game and appeared to say goodbye to the fans as he celebrated the win.

His goal celebration in Besiktas’ win over Kasımpaşa SK has sparked suggestions that Wout Weghorst is about to move to Manchester United on loan.

Speaking after the game, Besiktas manager Ceyhun Kazanci admitted he did not understand why Wout Weghorst said goodbye to the fans after his last goal for the Turkish side.

Ceyhun Kazanci also insisted that neither Burnley nor Manchester United have approached them about the transfer of Wout Weghorst.

“I don’t understand why Weghorst said goodbye to the fans, why he made such a move,” Ceyhun Kazanci said. “He is our soccer player at the moment. Our contract expires at the end of the season.

“If Manchester United or any other team want Weghorst, they will meet Burnley anyway. Burnley will then contact us and discuss the terms of the separation. If we accept, the contract will be terminated. Otherwise, it will continue until the end of the season.

“He can’t just leave. There will have to be a reward for us to approve the separation. I will give an example. Burnley told us: ‘We made a deal with this team for Weghorst. We give you half of the transfer fee. This may be a different condition. Then we’ll sit down and talk.

Since joining Besiktas on loan in 2022, Wout Weghorst has featured in 18 games for the Turkish giants. He also scored nine goals and collected four assists for Besiktas in those games.
