Arsenal unlikely to oversee deal for sought-after star in January

Journalist Dean Jones has ranked Arsenal’s chances of signing Alexis Mac Allister from Brighton and Hove Albion this January transfer window.

The 24-year-old impressed on the biggest stage last month when he played a key role at the heart of Argentina’s midfield throughout their journey to lift the World Cup.

Mac Allister has since attracted interest from other Premier League teams such as Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur, while Atlético Madrid have joined the race from abroad, according to the Daily Mail.

While clubs appreciate the Argentine, it’s highly unlikely the Seagulls will let one of their best talents go midseason. Mac Allister told BBC Radio Sussex that he “feels really good about this club and my teammates” so he won’t be pushing a move anytime soon.

Still, if he continues to showcase his Premier League talents for the remainder of the campaign, a bidding war may be on the horizon in the summer.

Dean Jones assessed Arsenal’s chances on GiveMeSport, saying: “The way we have to look at this at the moment is that Mac Allister is not leaving; that seems to be the underlying truth from Brighton’s point of view.

“So he might be the most exciting player to get in right now, but he’s probably less realistic than any other, say a [Youri] Tielemans, also arriving.
