Four Uruguayan players including Edinson Cavani could be facing a ‘six month ban’

FIFA is reportedly considering imposing a six-month ban on four Uruguayan stars for their actions after they were knocked out of the World Cup.

Uruguay’s last match saw them defeat Ghana 2-0, but that result was insufficient for them to advance to the knockout rounds as South Korea defeated Portugal to take the second ranking spot in goals scored.

And the South Americans were furious at full time over some of the controversial decisions made against them during the game, with Edinson Cavani and José Giménez being the ones who voiced their complaints to the referees the most.

When the full-time whistle was blown, the Uruguay players confronted the referee aggressively and nearly chased him down the tunnel while escorting him away. Cavani and a few others also looked reserved.

Cavani was also filmed hitting the VAR monitor as he made his way through the tunnel.

And according to AS, the players could now face a six-month ban for their actions. The report establishes the punishment for violations of articles 11 and 12 by footballers: “the prohibition of carrying out activities related to football for at least six months”; where Article 12 refers to “Improper conduct of players and officials”.

Edinson Cavani, José María Giménez, Diego Godín and Fernando Muslera may be banned from representing their clubs and countries as a result of the final decision of the FIFA Disciplinary Committee, which will not be made public until the end of February.
