Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has provided an update on James Milner’s injury after the midfielder was pulled in the 48th minute of the Reds’ Champions League game against Napoli.

The Merseyside outfit faced Napoli in their final match of the 22/23 Champions League group stage and secured a 2-0 win, courtesy of two late goals.

Mohamed Salah gave Liverpool the lead 85 minutes into the game, scoring from close range after Napoli goalkeeper Alex Meret squandered a save. Darwin Núñez then doubled Liverpool’s lead in stoppage time to seal their victory.

However, Liverpool suffered an injury in the game when Milner was forced to leave the field. The 36-year-old had suffered a blow to the head, drawing blood, towards the end of the first half. He received treatment and continued to play. However, after reaching too far in an attempt to cut off a Napoli pass, he went down again. Liverpool finally replaced Milner with Harvey Elliot in the 48th minute.

Speaking after the match, Klopp was asked about Milner’s injury. The Liverpool manager said Milner appeared to be fine but confirmed further checks would be carried out.

“I dont know. He seemed fine now, but we probably have to do more checks,” Klopp said after the match.

Meanwhile, despite their 2-0 win over Napoli, Liverpool finished second in the Champions League Group A points table.

Both Napoli and Liverpool have 15 points from six games in the group stage, but the Italian team take first place thanks to superior goal difference. The Serie A side had recorded a 4-1 victory over Liverpool when the two teams met in the group stage earlier this season.

Liverpool need to secure a win to avoid falling further down the Premier League points table. Those of Klopp are already languishing in ninth place, with 16 points in 12 games.

Meanwhile, Tottenham Hotspur sit in third place, behind only table leaders Arsenal and defending Premier League champions Manchester City. The Spurs have 26 points in 13 games.

Liverpool will be looking to return to winning ways in the Premier League after defeats in their previous two games in the English top flight. They fell 1-0 to Nottingham Forest and lost 2-1 to Leeds United in their previous two league games.
