China will plan an official bid to host the 2031 Women’s World Cup. The Chinese Football Association and China’s sports, education and finance ministries have drawn up the strategy.
If selected, it would be the third time the country has hosted the tournament. China previously hosted the tournaments in 1991 and 2007.
The Asian country is trying to grow the sport back to the levels reached in the 1990s. China previously finished second at the Women’s World Cup in 1999 and the 1996 Summer Olympics. They even won gold medals during the Asian Games in 1990, 1994 and 1998. However, the silver medal has eluded the Chinese women’s team in recent years.
China seeks to host the 2031 Women’s World Cup
However, the country is working on expanding development once again. “Chinese women’s football has seen great growth in the past 10 years,” said Chinese star Wang Shuang. “We now enjoy much more attention from society and have more and more quality training bases across the country, as well as quality training facilities and methods.”
“We have a much better system and youth training as I am seeing an increasing number of girls starting to play football. When we didn’t have these scientific training facilities and methods, it really wasn’t clear to us what we could achieve after a tough training session.”
China is currently ranked 15th in the FIFA women’s world rankings ahead of next summer’s Women’s World Cup in Australia/New Zealand. They have apparently set themselves a goal of at least qualifying for the quarterfinals of the upcoming tournament and the 2024 Olympics. This goal would later turn into a push for a semi-final spot at the 2031 World Cup and the Olympics. 2032 Olympics.
The hosts of the 2027 Women’s World Cup have yet to be announced. However, South Africa and a joint bid between Belgium, Germany and the Netherlands have already submitted proposals.
