According to CalcioMercatoWeb, Liverpool are planning to make an approach to sign Aston Villa midfielder Douglas Luiz during the January window.

Luiz is in the final year of his current contract at Villa Park. The Villians could decide to cash in on him during the winter window instead of letting him go for free at the end of the season.

Jurgen Klopp has struggled with his midfield options so far this season. Several of the Reds’ first-team midfielders, including Thiago and Jordan Henderson, have suffered injuries this season.

Liverpool signed Arthur Melo to end their problems during the deadline day of the summer window. But the Brazilian international suffered an injury earlier this month and he is expected to be out for the next three to four months.

Klopp is looking to add Luiz to his squad to get the Reds’ season back on track. However, he will face competition from Juventus, AS Milan and AS Roma, who have also recently shown interest in signing him.

What will Douglas Luiz bring to Anfield?

Valued at £31.50 by TransferMarkt, Douglas Luiz is a tireless midfielder, known for his stamina, work-rate and passing skills. He has played eight Premier League games this season, scoring one goal.
