Guardiola denies Haaland was rested with Liverpool game in mind

Erling Haaland has enjoyed a staggeringly impressive start to the campaign, but when news broke that Manchester City were set to bench their star man for the first time this season, Pep Guardiola said it had nothing to do with the fact that Liverpool was his next game.

The interviewer then tried to double down on the fact that the Manchester club’s star striker was not in the starting eleven, to which his manager replied: “I didn’t speak to him.”

It’s a typically pointed interview from the former Barcelona manager and it seems hard to imagine there was not the slightest thought of going to Anfield, hoping to secure a big win against Jurgen Klopp’s side.
