AS Roma News: In the second half of Roma’s loss to Atalanta on Sunday, José Mourinho was sacked for running onto the pitch in anger.
After the referee in the Serie A match decided not to give Roma a penalty in the 55th minute, Mourinho was furious beyond belief. Atalanta’s Caleb Okoli was accused of fouling Nicolo Zaniolo inside the penalty area, but the decision was overturned, much to the chagrin of the Roma players and management.
Mourinho was seen storming onto the pitch shouting and waving his arms after home players surrounded the referee. He moved back a bit as the referee approached with red card in hand, but a Roma staffer had to restrain him as his face turned red.
He eventually stopped objecting and moved into the stands, still furious. Mourinho’s mood did not improve much after the match. Roma fell 1-0 to Milan at the Stadio Olimpico due to a Giorgio Scalvini goal in the first half.
AS Roma News: Injury problems affecting Roma
With their fifth victory in as many league games, Atalanta moved to the top of Serie A. While Mourinho’s Roma dropped to sixth place. Ironically, Mourinho’s famous tantrum occurred shortly after he declared that Roma’s current injury problems were not worth crying over.
