Fabrizio Romano sheds light on Antoine Griezmann to Manchester United rumours – Man United News And Transfer News

Manchester United have been linked with Antoine Griezmann following reports of interest from the club during the summer transfer window.

As previously reported, the Red Devils made an inquiry about the availability of the Frenchman during the summer.

However, Griezmann has vowed to stay at Atletico Madrid despite interest from several Premier League clubs.

According to Dermot Corrigan, a January transfer remains a possibility after a difficult clash between Barcelona, his parent club, and Atletico Madrid, who have him on loan.

But it seems Griezmann is unlikely to leave the Spanish capital in the winter window, with transfer guru Fabrizio Romano stepping in.

Speaking at his daily briefing with Caught Offside, the journalist said:

“I am aware of the speculation that Manchester United asked about Antoine Griezmann in the summer, but I understand that there is not much to say.

“At the moment, the situation is not yet clear between Atlético de Madrid and Barcelona for Griezmann, so nothing is happening with other clubs yet. Griezmann is 100% focused on Atlético de Madrid”.

United have bounced back after a nightmarish start to the season, however the team remains short on attacking options.

Griezmann may have provided an interesting alternative to the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo and Anthony Martial up front, and the fact that he has yet to start a La Liga game suggested he could be available.

But with his focus on Atletico, it seems more likely that the player simply wants Barcelona and his loan club to come to an agreement on his fee.

At present, Atletico are reluctant for him to play more than 45 minutes in a match as that could trigger a £35m purchase obligation.

It seems that, sooner rather than later, the two LaLiga giants will have to find a compromise.

As for Manchester United, the search for attacking options continues.
