Oscar De La Hoya launches another hellacious attack on Canelo

Oscar De La Hoya continued his attacks on the boxer he once promoted when he pounced on Canelo Alvarez.

The Golden Boy boss attended Canelo’s latest comeback win over Gennadiy Golovkin in Las Vegas and then decided to get salty.

Despite Canelo defending his world titles in a dominant performance, De La Hoya went on a rampage on social media.

The truth is that everyone is afraid to tell the truth. The fight was a failure. GGG was old, and Canelo can’t hold Hopkins’ jockstrap,” he noted.

The tirade follows many other derogatory comments directed at Canelo since the Mexican superstar decided to leave De La Hoya.

Previously, De La Hoya criticized Canelo’s handlers when Dmitry Bivol inflicted a record second loss on the undisputed super middleweight champion in May.

“It was a lose-lose situation,” De La Hoya said. “No one knew Bivol at all.

“I would have promoted Bivol to get a bigger name because no one knew who he was before he fought Canelo. He was irrelevant. He was nobody.

“We were actually going to play him against [Gilberto] Lefty Ramirez, but Canelo now has a promoter who doesn’t come from the boxing world. He doesn’t know the fight game, and he beat Canelo.

“It was the wrong style. Vegas didn’t have any fuss at all.”

Canelo leaving Golden Boy

Describing his thoughts when Canelo jumped ship to work with DAZN, De La Hoya was in a bad mood again.

“I can’t figure out exactly what we did wrong as a promotion company when it comes to Canelo,” De La Hoya told Sirius XM.

“Everything we do at Golden Boy is to the letter, and our track record speaks for itself.

“Apart from Top Rank, Golden Boy is the only other promoter that can put on the biggest events. I still don’t know what we did wrong in terms of Canelo.

“We got Canelo to where he is now, just like we got Deontay Wilder, Danny Garcia, Adrien Broner and others.

“All I can do right now is wish Canelo well. I have to move on at this point and focus on building other champions.”

“Were there snakes in the grass that influenced Canelo? It’s hard to rule it out.”

Earlier this year, in response to a video of Canelo helping a young student learn the basics, the Golden Boy boss said: “Please, this guy does everything wrong.

“He lifts his head when he throws hooks. On her heels, with flat feet. What other thing? – Yes, avoid Charlo.”

DAZN

Finally, speaking about Eddie Hearn’s involvement in Canelo’s career, the ten-time world champion said, “He’s a character, that’s all,” regarding the man from Essex.

“The business of boxing, building superstars, building champions, requires a lot of strategies. It takes a lot of insight, knowing the fighters and learning their styles, and that’s something I’m an expert at.

“When I built Canelo Alvarez as he crossed the border from Mexico at the tender age of 18, and promoted his first fight, we had a vision.

“We knew exactly what we had on our hands. We built it to be a monster.

“Look, he’s doing a lot of fights that don’t mean anything, especially here in the US.

“He could be a good promoter in the UK. He is building European fighters, but that means nothing here in the US.

“I know this is a business. He’s a DAZN partner and obviously I’m a DAZN partner, but let’s stay in our lanes and do our jobs right.

“Let me focus on the American market and build champions, and boxing will continue to thrive for many years to come.”

It looks like the De La Hoya and Canelo fight will go on and on despite the former buying tickets to see the 32-year-old live.
