Exclusive: Fabrizio Romano sets the record straight on rumoured Man Utd transfer interest in La Liga star

Manchester United have been linked with Antoine Griezmann again, but Fabrizio Romano is not aware of anything between the Frenchman and other clubs.

Griezmann is one of the biggest names in world football but he has had a rough few years, struggling during his time at Barcelona and then continuing to look beyond his best despite returning on loan to former club Atletico Madrid.

The 31-year-old has reportedly attracted recent interest from Man Utd, according to The Athletic, but what the future holds remains to be seen.

At the moment, Romano seems convinced that Griezmann is only focused on Atletico Madrid, although his situation with parent club Barcelona also seems a bit complicated.

Responding to recent transfer rumors in his exclusive CaughtOffside column, Romano said: “I’m aware of the speculation that Manchester United asked about Antoine Griezmann in the summer, but I understand there’s not much about it.

“At the moment, the situation is not yet clear between Atlético de Madrid and Barcelona for Griezmann, so nothing is happening with other clubs yet. Griezmann is 100% focused on Atlético de Madrid”.

United are a bit lacking in attacking quality at the moment, so it’s easy to see why Griezmann could end up being linked with them after a great career in Spanish football.

Still, the Red Devils would probably do better to target someone younger as a longer-term option to replace the aging Cristiano Ronaldo, and give them an upgrade on inconsistent performers like Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial.
