Oscar De La Hoya Says Canelo – Golovkin III “was A F**** Dud”

By Dan Ambrose: Oscar De La Hoya says last Saturday’s highly publicized trilogy fight between superstar Canelo Alvarez and Gennadiy Golovkin was a “dud.”

De La Hoya further said that Golovkin (42-2-1, 37 KOs), 40, looked really “old” and that Canelo is no match for Bernard Hopkins.

There is no question that Golovkin looked old inside the ring and fought as if he was operating only 20% of the fighter he used to be during the zenith of his career.

With Golovkin running at a greatly reduced level, it made Canelo’s job that much easier as he was able to build a big lead in the first seven rounds.

Once Canelo had an insurmountable lead, he slipped into rounds eight through twelve, likely knowing Golovkin couldn’t make up the difference. However, he came close, as the judges scored him 116-112, 115-113 and 115-113.

“The truth is that everyone is afraid to tell the truth. The fight [Canelo-Golovkin] it was a failure. GGG was old as shit, and Canelo can’t hold Hopkins’ jockstrap,” Oscar De La Hoya said on social media.

I feel good. I feel fast; I feel strong. I think I had a good jab in rounds eight and nine. Then he got strong in the later rounds, but I’m there too. I am happy with what I did in the ring.

“I respect him a lot. He is a great fighter. He is a great fighter. He can beat everybody,” Canelo said when asked what Golovkin can do now at this point.

“Yeah, maybe,” Canelo said when asked if he was going to have some tequilas. It’s good. I need the surgery soon,” Canelo said of his injured left hand.

“I can win that fight, no problem,” Canelo said of his possible rematch against Dmitry Bivol in 2023. “He needs to take care of business with [Gilberto ‘Zurdo’ Ramirez. I want Ramirez to win. I wish for Ramirez to win. We’ll see.

“You need to be an example for them, and I think I’m a really good example. I know the things that I don’t need to do. I need to have surgery on my hand, so I have that issue for that fight [with Golovkin].

“You learn from everything. Loss, victory, everything. I learn a lot,” Canelo said. “He is a great fighter, a top fighter. He is strong.

“I feel great, I feel happy. I did my best and I’m happy,” Canelo Alvarez told Matchroom Boxing after his win over Gennadiy Golovkin. “Look, I do my best at everything. In a father too.
